Around May Day, I was walking past one of the lakes here and it was so beautiful. The vibes were perfect.
There were also nice shaded areas in the woods that would be perfect for gatherings.

I’ve been playing a social deduction game called Blood on the Clocktower. It’s similar to Werewolf/Mafia, you have the “good” team, who have strength in numbers, and you have the “evil” team, who are vastly outnumbered, but have strong skills and know who each other are.
Every day, the town gets together and decide who to execute. The only way for “good” to win is to ultimately execute all the evils.
Since then, I had this idea: what if we tried playing some Clocktower games here?
It would be great to get away from our usual boring location. To be outside and hang out together.
We could also make a custom game scenario, which involved Finnish mythology of a lake monster as the evil demon.
It took two months to organize, lots of convincing (why don’t we just play in the normal place?), but in the end, we made it happen!
It’s one of those things that serves as a reminder — if you want something to happen, just go out and do it.
One thing I also wanted to do was make paper invites.
I design with pixels almost on a daily basis. That’s fine, but it’s fun to do something different. Making invites was this event was the perfect opportunity.

Early on, I knew I wanted to make something layered. A blue piece of paper with some kind pattern printed on top as the outside sheet. Then, a smaller inside sheet with the actual invitation text inside. Lastly, the two sheets would be bound together with red string for added contrast.

This all seemed good on the screen. But I had no idea if it would actually work in reality. Print has so many other considerations that I didn’t know about.
In the end though, it worked perfectly.
I’m so happy I found a local print shop where the staff cared so much. They went above and beyond, testing over and over to get all the alignment correct.
The end result was stunning. It looked so much better than I had imagined.
Lastly, there is such a unique joy in making something that you can hold with your hands. It’s just so satisfying.
Oh, and the actual event? It was fun!
As promised on the card: snacks, fizzy drinks, and fun lake vibes.
